Sand Creek cuts a ribbon of cottonwood and willow through north Aurora, and out at Star K Ranch the deer come through the brush near the Morrison Nature Center like they still own the place. That opening mow is the best one: a lawn goes from pale and matted to upright and striped in a single afternoon. After that it becomes rhythm — mowing, trimming, cleanups, keeping the line between grass and concrete honest all season. A tidy yard on a creek-side street is a small contribution to a good-looking neighborhood, and it is worth making.
