March is the month that surprises people here. Aurora's biggest snows ride in on an upslope wind out of the northeast, wet and heavy, stacking against the driveways off Smoky Hill Road while the lots near Southlands are still dark. Pumpkin Properties LLC is already out in it — headlights on, blade down, working ahead of a storm that is still writing itself. The reward is the first clean pass: a black stripe of pavement opening behind the truck, and a walk shoveled square to the door so nobody has to guess where the step is. By sunrise the snow is banked where it belongs and the day gets to start on time.
