Late afternoon on Havana Street, the light comes off the asphalt flat and gold, and the signs along it read in three languages. Behind those blocks sit the older lots of Aurora — narrow gates, deep-rooted shade trees, back corners no wide deck will ever fit through. Medrano's Landscaping mows them anyway, cutting by hand where the machine can't reach and running a straight edge where the grass meets the walk. Spring and fall bring the longer passes: beds cut back, leaves gathered, clippings carried off instead of left at the curb. It is close, patient work on streets that show every bit of it.
