Late on a summer evening in Aspen the last light climbs the face of Aspen Mountain and goes rose for a few minutes, and everything below it — the blue-black spruce, the cool grass in the yards — deepens at once. Bluegreen is a lawn care outfit named for pretty much that: the two colors this town keeps trading back and forth. The work behind it is unglamorous and steady — mowing on schedule, edging tight to the concrete, trimming what the mower cannot reach, and clearing the yard out at both ends of the season. Grass at this altitude grows in a hurry and then quits, so the calendar matters as much as the blade. What a crew leaves behind should look settled rather than fussed over: an even cut holding its color, and edges sharp enough to read from the street.
