October at the foot of the Rampart Range is a hinge: the Gambel oak on the hillsides goes rust, the aspen up the canyons goes gold, and one morning there is white on Pikes Peak that does not leave. Evergreen Ecoscape & Design works both sides of that hinge — mowing, trimming, edging and fall cleanup right up to the last warm week, then plowing, shoveling and de-icing once storms start stacking against the range. Landscape design here is really an argument with wind and thin soil, and the good answers look calm afterward. There is a real pleasure in the final cut of the year, edges sharp, beds cleared, everything put down neat for the cold.
