The Modernist Landscapes

About The Modernist Landscapes

Along the roads toward Pioneertown the buildings tend toward straight lines set down in a landscape that has none — flat roofs, glass, a homestead cabin squared up against a pile of boulders. The Modernist Landscapes works to that same logic: grass mowed to one even plane, edges cut in clean geometry, trimmer lines held true along walls and walkways, weeds taken out so nothing blurs the drawing. It is landscape as composition, where a crisp border does as much as anything you could plant. The high desert makes its own case for restraint, and a well-kept yard here is mostly about what stays disciplined rather than what gets added. Yucca Valley and the surrounding towns, held to a regular cut.
