Woodland took its name from the groves of valley oaks that once spread across this stretch of valley floor, and many of those broad trees still arch over its yards and streets. Yolo County Tree Service cares for trees and lawns in Woodland, where a single old oak can shade an entire lot. In April the oaks leaf out in a fresh, almost yellow green, and their catkins dust the sidewalks below. Giving that canopy room and keeping the grass beneath it tidy lets light and air reach the ground. Stand under a well-tended oak on a spring afternoon and the valley itself feels a little more gracious.
