A&J Lawn Care

About A&J Lawn Care

First light in the Pajaro Valley arrives grey, the bay's fog lying over the fields until the sun climbing the Santa Cruz range burns a hole through it. A&J Lawn Care is out in that hour, when the grass is still heavy with damp and the mower leaves a dark stripe behind it. The work is mowing, edging, string trimming and clearing whatever the night wind dropped — plain tasks repeated until a yard looks composed. By the time East Lake Avenue fills with traffic, a lawn can already be squared away, its border cut sharp against the walk. There is real pleasure in that: a green rectangle steaming faintly while the fog lets go of Watsonville.
