BEN'S MOWING

About BEN'S MOWING

Seven in the morning on a Turlock side street, and the lawns are still cool enough that the dew hasn't burned off them yet. That is the hour this work likes best — mower running, stripes laid down straight, edges trimmed where concrete meets green. Mowing is a plain job and a good one: a lawn kept on schedule never has a bad week, and neighbors notice long before they say anything about it. Through the long dry stretch from May to October the grass needs that routine most, and it gets it. Turlock yards, and the ones out toward Denair and Keyes, hold their line all summer because somebody keeps showing up.
