About Travis Preston's Landscaping

April Saturdays on the older streets near Lincoln Park smell like cut grass by nine in the morning. Travis Preston's Landscaping is out in that hour, walking a mower in straight passes, laying down the faint pale-and-dark banding that makes a modest front lawn look considered. Then the details that actually sell it: a trimmer run along the fence line, an edger opening a clean channel where turf had crept over the sidewalk, weeds pulled from the bed, clippings blown off the drive so nothing is tracked inside. It is ordinary work done attentively, one yard at a time, and the reward is the small double-take a neighbor gives walking past. Tracy has thousands of these lawns; each one deserves to look like somebody minded it.
