Tracy Top Soil

About Tracy Top Soil

Native ground around Tracy drives a hard bargain: clay that sets like fired brick by August, hardpan waiting a spade's depth down, and a thin gray crust where a lawn is supposed to go. Tracy Top Soil works the layer beneath everything else, hauling screened topsoil, compost, sand and mulch to yards from the orchard roads near Vernalis to the newest blocks on the east side. The good part of the day is watching a truck's load turn into something — beds raised and dark and crumbling in the hand, a lawn area graded smooth and soft enough to take root before the sod even lands. Soil prep is unglamorous and it decides everything; a yard built on good ground forgives an owner a hundred small mistakes later. Get the dirt right and the green mostly takes care of itself.
