Topanga is a canyon that thinks it is a world — sycamores along the creek, coast live oaks holding the slopes, the marine layer sliding up from the coast each morning and letting go by ten. Campion Walker Landscapes designs and tends gardens that belong to that world: native and Mediterranean plantings that ride the canyon light, paths that follow the hillside's own logic, small lawns set like clearings. The work is equal parts eye and upkeep — because in Topanga a garden left alone becomes chaparral again, beautifully but firmly. Keeping the line between wild and kept is the daily art here. Done well, a garden in this canyon feels inevitable, as if the land had always intended it.
