About Delgadillo Gardening

Out toward Garden Acres the backyards still hold fruit trees — a lemon, a fig, a plum that drops more than anyone can eat — and the beds beneath them want tending all summer. Delgadillo Gardening keeps those yards: mowing and edging the lawn, weeding and turning the planting beds, shaping the shrubs, cutting back whatever has reached too far. It is gardening in the older sense, hands in it, one square of ground at a time. Stockton summers ask a great deal of a yard, and the difference between a tired one and a tended one is mostly somebody showing up. The reward is a green square of shade in a valley that runs to dust by August.
