Highway One comes down off the shoulder of Mount Tamalpais in a run of tight switchbacks, and at the bottom the whole Pacific opens out at once. Stinson Beach lives inside that view, a small town of weathered cottages and cypress windbreaks where the fog can swallow the sand at noon and hand it back by three.
