Before the bakery cases fill and the visitors arrive, Solvang belongs to the early workers — and Gomez Landscape is among them, mowers rolling while the windmill blades stand still against a pale sky. The village's half-timbered storefronts get the photographs, but the lawns and gardens around them take real keeping: regular cutting, edges traced along brick walks, hedges trimmed to match a town that takes its appearance seriously. Beyond the village center, the route runs into the neighborhoods and ranchettes of the Santa Ynez Valley, where yards open toward oak-covered hills. The climate is kind and the growing season generous, which means the work never truly pauses. By mid-morning the crew has moved on, leaving behind the tidy green that makes the postcard true.
