About Burton Landscape Architecture Studio

Cedros Avenue in mid-afternoon is all warm shade and open roll-up doors, a street where things get drawn before they get built. Burton Landscape Architecture Studio works in that spirit a few blocks from the sand: a garden sketched on paper, then staked out on real ground where the soil is sandy and the wind comes up the hill off the water every afternoon around three. Plans turn into planting beds, a lawn set square to the house, irrigation laid so nothing has to be guessed at in August. Maintenance follows the design rather than fighting it, mowing and edging kept to the lines the garden was given. The pleasure is in watching a drawing settle into a place until it looks like it was always there.
