About Dr. Pest

Surfside's lanes are gated and skinny, sand always working its way in from the beach side, salt spray on everything that faces the water. Dr. Pest keeps the small lawns along them cut and edged, trimming the corners a mower cannot reach and hauling the cuttings back out through the gate. Grass living this close to the surf thins and goes patchy without attention; kept up, it stays a surprising, stubborn green. Winter swell nights leave a rime of salt on the blades, and the next visit takes care of it. It is a narrow strip of town, and every yard on it is visible from the road.
