About Artificial Lawns Direct, Inc.

By August the hills above the Westside have gone the color of dry oat straw, and half the yards in town are asking the same question about water. Artificial Lawns Direct, Inc. answers it in base rock and clean seams: ground graded flat, drainage set so the first November storm has somewhere to run, blades laid so the grain all leans one way. The work fits the odd shapes a Santa Cruz lot hands you — the strip beside the driveway, the small square behind a beach cottage, a pet run, a putting green tucked into the back corner. Onshore wind and sea air don't touch it, and it holds its color straight through the long rainless stretch. There is real pleasure in the last pass with the broom, when a yard that was dust in the morning looks like the middle of June.
