Manifest Building

About Manifest Building

Milpas Street is awake early — panaderías open, traffic heading for the freeway, egrets standing in the shallows of the Andrée Clark Bird Refuge a few blocks down. Eastside yards are compact and close to the sidewalk, so the edge along the concrete is the first thing anybody sees. Manifest Building mows, edges and trims lawns across Santa Barbara and sweeps the walk clean before moving on. Small lots reward exactness: even height corner to corner, hand trimming at the fence line, nothing left in the gutter. A block where the lawns are kept looks cared for as a whole, and that is worth getting up early for.
