About A.C. Postel Memorial Rose Garden

Fog slides down off the Santa Ynez foothills before sunrise and settles on the lawns below the Mission, and the grass holds it like a breath it hasn't let go of yet. By nine the marine layer thins, the sandstone warms, and every blade shows the line where a mower turned. A.C. Postel Memorial Rose Garden mows, edges and trims lawns across Santa Barbara, keeping the slow rhythm this coast keeps. There is real satisfaction in a green that runs clean to the walkway with no ragged fringe, and in clippings swept off the path before the first person walks it. When the December rains come the turf drinks deep, and by February a kept yard looks like it has been waiting all along for someone to notice.
