The first real rain usually reaches San Leandro sometime in late October, and out toward Mulford Gardens you can smell it coming off the flats an hour ahead. That rain is the starting gun for the better half of the year: we aerate, overseed the thin ground, feed the turf and watch it come back green. The rest of the calendar stays steady — mowing, edging, string trimming, weed control and hauling the cuttings away every single visit. Leaves get cleared as they fall so no lawn spends a week smothered under them. By February the yard looks like it did all the work itself.
