Late in the day the Halcyon-Foothill blocks catch a long, low light that comes over the hills behind them and lies flat across the grass. Anything uneven in a cut shows up in that light, which is a useful way to be kept honest. We mow on a set rotation, edge the sidewalk and driveway lines, trim the fence bases and pull the weeds coming up through the joints. Feeding, aeration and overseeding are timed to the wet season, and leaf cleanups run from October until the trees have finished. Nothing dramatic — just a lawn that keeps looking right week after week.
