February in the Cherrywood blocks is a soft, wet, blossoming month, and the grass wakes up before anything else in the yard does. We are out in it — first cuts of the year, edges re-cut after the winter, weeds lifted while the soil still gives them up easily, bed lines tidied back to the lawn. Through spring and summer the route stays regular: mowing, edging, string trimming, feeding and keeping the weeds down. Autumn is leaf and debris cleanup, then aeration and overseeding once the ground softens again. San Leandro hands us a growing season most places would envy, and we try to use all of it.
