Green Grass

About Green Grass

Cambrian Park cools off around seven, when the bay breeze finally makes it inland and the ranch houses off Camden open their windows. Green Grass keeps the lawns on those flat, generous lots — mowed on the week, edged along every curb cut, trimmed clean around mailbox posts and the old fruit trees left over from the orchards. Weeds get pulled before they can seed; the turf gets fed and aerated so August cannot hollow it out. Nothing here is complicated and all of it shows: a level cut, a sharp border, a driveway with nothing left on it. On a summer evening the whole street reads as one continuous green.
