October can announce itself with wind — a gusty afternoon can strip the trees along the older streets in a single evening. BHCA works the weeks after that, when a yard can go from tidy to buried between one Saturday and the next. Leaves raked out of fence corners and window wells, hauled off the turf before the wet sets in and mats it; a last low cut so the grass goes into the winter short and clean; aeration while the ground still gives. It is unglamorous work, done early on cool mornings, and it is what makes the following April easy. The reward comes months later, when spring comes back and the lawn is green instead of gray.
