By late August the hills above Rancho San Clemente have gone the color of a paper bag, and the only green left in view is the green somebody chose to keep. Forever Green tends that choice — mowing on a schedule the grass can count on, feeding it before it thins, and walking the zones with a valve key when a dry stripe shows up along a south-facing slope. Water is the whole argument in this town, so a head that mists instead of soaks, or a timer running at noon, gets fixed rather than tolerated. The reward comes in the cool hour after the onshore breeze returns: a lawn holding its color, edges tight, weeds pulled before they seed. Keeping a yard alive through a Southern California dry spell is patient work, and it shows.
