Jose The Gardener

About Jose The Gardener

In Ventura's midtown, where bungalows keep lemon trees in their side yards and the streets run straight toward the sea, Jose The Gardener works the way the name promises — close to the ground, one yard at a time. Mowing, hand-trimming around the roses, pulling the weeds that sneak up along the fence line: it is patient work, and patience shows. The mornings here are cool and gray until the coast fog lifts, perfect hours for tending beds before the day warms. A gardener gets to know a yard the way a neighbor knows a face, noticing what changed since last week and what needs attention next. That kind of watching is half the craft; the mower and the shears are the other half.
