Kaiser Gardens

About Kaiser Gardens

Autumn in Sleepy Hollow and the flats of San Anselmo is a slow, amber affair — buckeyes bare by October, oaks letting go a little at a time until the rains sort out the rest. Kaiser Gardens keeps pace with it: raking and clearing, cutting lawns shorter as growth slows, tucking beds in with mulch before winter. This is garden country in the deepest sense, a town of hedges and dooryards folded into the Marin hills. The craft is quiet and cumulative; a yard tended every week in November looks effortless by March. And there is no better walk home than a street where every garden has been given its due.
