Around three most afternoons the valley wind comes up and reminds the east side of Salinas who is actually running things. The landscaping croc works with it instead of against it: mow first, edge second, then send the clippings downwind and off the walk in one pass. Lawns, string trimming along the fence lines, hedges brought back to shape, and the cleanup that turns a tired yard back into a place to sit — that is the list, start to finish. Nothing fancy about it, just a straight line held all the way to the driveway apron. On the drive out the Alisal streets look swept, and the wind can have the rest of the day.
