The eucalyptus along Garrard Boulevard throw long bands of shade across the road, and behind them the Potrero Hills run their spine down toward the water. Quintero Landscapes works the yards on either side — mowing, edging, trimming shrubs back off the paths, and hauling the green waste out. On a hill lot the mowing lines have to be read before they are cut, and reading them right leaves a lawn that looks deliberate rather than merely short. The reward comes at the end of it: hoses coiled, edges sharp, cut grass on the air in the shade. Richmond and Point Richmond fill most of the week; San Pablo and El Cerrito take the rest.
