Murphy's Turf

About Murphy's Turf

Before the town wakes, the foghorn out past King Harbor keeps time, and the grass in Redondo Beach carries a skin of sea-damp. Murphy's Turf starts in that gray hush, cutting stripes into lawns while the streets are still quiet. Turf is their single subject: mowing, feeding, aerating, patching the thin spots until a yard reads as one unbroken green. The damp mornings here are a gift to grass, and they make the most of it. By the time the harbor masts glitter at noon, the stripes are laid and the day's work shows.
