Visionary Scapes

About Visionary Scapes

From the ridge along Sunset Drive in January you can see snow sitting on San Gorgonio while roses are still open in the yards below, which is the kind of contradiction a Redlands landscape gets to work with. Visionary Scapes starts with the blank version of a yard — bare dirt, a tired strip of grass, a slope nobody has figured out — and draws it forward into planting beds, borders, hardscape lines and turf that all agree with each other. Plants get chosen for a valley that runs hot and bright most of the year and cool at the foot of the mountains at night. Once it is in, the mowing and upkeep keep those lines crisp rather than letting them soften back into guesswork. The reward is the second look people give a place they have driven past a hundred times. Redlands, Yucaipa, Loma Linda and Beaumont are all on the map.
