Rancho Santa Margarita ends abruptly and beautifully — past the last streets, the sage and oak country of Trabuco Canyon begins, and red-tailed hawks ride the thermals over both. Wildscapes works that edge, tending yards that live next door to wild land. Grass is kept mowed with its edges held, brush and borders stay in bounds, and cleanups make sure the chaparral remains something admired at a distance rather than a guest moving in. The trick is balance: a yard neat enough to feel kept, open enough to feel it belongs to its hillside. Out here the horizon does half the landscaping, and the crew is glad to share the credit.
