Aleman Gardening

About Aleman Gardening

Foothill Boulevard carried Route 66 long before it carried commuters, and it starts moving early, headlights strung west toward Upland while the ridge is still a silhouette. Aleman Gardening is out in that first hour, trailer gate down, dew still beaded on the mower blades. Grass cut, edges run along the walks, hedges taken back to a flat plane, clippings blown up and hauled away. There is a pleasure in finishing a yard before the street is fully awake, in leaving it looking as though it simply grew that way. By the time the neighborhood is pouring coffee, the crew is two houses down and the whole block smells like cut grass.
