Portola sits at nearly five thousand feet on the Middle Fork of the Feather River, a railroad town where summer is short, bright, and worth every day. ABS LANDSCAPE works that compressed season hard: lawns green up fast once the snow lets go, and mowing, trimming, and yard care run full tilt through the mountain light of June, July, and August. Beds get planted with what can take the frost dates; fall cleanup comes early, before the pines start catching weather. In a high valley like this, a kept yard against the lodgepole treeline is a small declaration of summer. The crew makes that declaration up and down the river, from Portola out to Graeagle and Beckwourth.
