When a storm comes in wet, the snow piles up heavy and bends the branches down over the sidewalks. Noecon works those nights and the dark hour after them, plowing driveways, clearing walks, and opening the path from the door to the car before anyone has to guess where it is. March storms are the hardest of it — spring snow that weighs twice what January's does and turns to concrete by ten in the morning if it sits. Snow gets pushed and stacked where it will not fill the drive back in as it melts. There is a plain kind of satisfaction in one black driveway on a white street.
