About Fredy's Landscaping & Gardening

For a couple of weeks in late May the jacarandas along the avenues let go all at once and Oceanside gets purple sidewalks, which is lovely for about a day and then becomes somebody's job. Fredy's Landscaping & Gardening takes it on the way it takes on everything — sweeping, clearing, mowing through the drift, keeping the beds beneath it open. Gardening is the older half of that name and it shows in the hand work: deadheading, pulling weeds by hand, shaping a shrub with shears instead of a machine. Then the ordinary spine of the week, lawns cut and edged, hedges trimmed, trimmings carried out. A garden kept by hand has a softness you can read from the street even if you can't say exactly why.
