About Brothers Landscaping

Saturday in Fruitvale starts early — doors propped open, music out of a kitchen window, the smell of a bakery a block over. Brothers Landscaping is out on those streets with the mower running, taking the narrow deep lots from International down toward Peralta Creek. Grass grows hard through the wet winter here and then wants cutting all through the dry stretch, so the job becomes a rhythm: mow, edge, trim the fence line, rake the walk clean. They pull the weeds out of the curb strip and take the pile with them, because a yard is not finished until the truck leaves loaded and the sidewalk is swept. By evening the block looks tended, and that is the whole point of the day.
