After a January storm rakes across Marin, the coast live oaks in Novato's creekside neighborhoods and out toward Indian Valley are left soaked, wind-tossed, and littered with deadwood. Mayan Climber goes up into those canopies, climbing the trees themselves to trim and thin them from within. From the high branches the view runs over rooftops toward the marshes along the bay, and the work is all about the shape of the whole tree. When it's finished the oak stands lighter and more open, the yard below gets its winter sun back, and the limb that scraped the gutter all season is simply gone. Tree work, done from the inside out.
