When the Santa Anas come down over the Newport Coast ridges in October, the air goes dry and glass-clear and the grass starts asking for more than the sky is offering. Flawless Grass works right through that wind, mowing a touch higher so the turf can shade its own roots, and edging the ridge-top walks where dust wants to gather. Trimming follows the retaining walls and the slope breaks; weed control goes down before the first rains give the seed heads their chance. A measured feeding sets the lawn up to green out again when the weather finally turns wet. Standing at the top of one of those Newport Beach streets with Catalina cut sharp on the horizon, a finished lawn is a fine thing to look back at.
