Fire Reduct

About Fire Reduct

By late July the hills around Mariposa have cured to the color of straw, and every dry stem beneath the gray pines is waiting on the afternoon wind. Fire Reduct meets that season at ground level, cutting tall cured grass down short, trimming back growth that crowds a house, and leaving a clean margin between home and foothill brush. You can read the result from the road: a low, tidy apron around the porch, red clay showing at the edges, the manzanita held at arm's length. When the heat finally breaks and the cicadas go quiet toward evening, a yard cut this way just sits there calm. That calm is the work, and it is worth being proud of.
