About ZenGardener

By late afternoon the light over Los Angeles turns long and yellow, and the shadow of the Santa Monica Mountains reaches down into the streets below. ZenGardener keeps yards for that hour — mow lines running true, hedges shaped, garden beds cleared of the volunteer weeds that push up after a wet week. In May the jacarandas drop purple over everything, and the raking is half the job; the payoff is a lawn swept clean with the blossoms gathered neat at the curb. The work here is quiet: a mower, a pair of shears, the hose coiled back on its hook. Grass in this climate asks for a steady hand more than a heavy one — cut on a rhythm, trimmed at the borders, fed when the season turns. What gets left behind is a yard that feels settled, the kind you want to stand in while the sun drops behind the ridge.
