Gabriel's Gardening Service

About Gabriel's Gardening Service

After the February rains the Arroyo Seco runs loud below Highland Park and the lawns turn a green they cannot possibly keep past May. Gabriel's Gardening Service is out in that short brilliant season, mowing the growth back into shape and pulling the beds clear before the weeds decide they own the place. The bungalow yards here are compact, stepped up from the sidewalk on low walls, so an edge cut clean along the top of that wall changes the whole face of the house. Trimming follows the fence lines and the porch steps, the way a hand follows a seam. When the crew pulls away the yard has that settled look of something recently tended, and the street feels a little more cared for than it did an hour before.
