About Alma Gardening Company Inc.

October in Watts, when a dry wind comes down out of the passes and scours the haze off the basin, the light turns to something close to bronze and the Towers catch every bit of it. Alma Gardening Company Inc. is out in that light with the mower, taking the front lawns down even across the flat, wide-set blocks south of the tracks. Edges are cut where grass meets the walk, weeds pulled from the parkway strip, the whole yard raked clear before the wind can undo it. It is unglamorous work that reads immediately: a house looks tended, a street looks proud. Come back in a week and do it again, because that is how a neighborhood keeps its shine.
