The first real rain usually shows up in November, and inside two weeks the brown hills around La Mesa turn a green that feels almost unreasonable. Jimenez Gardening works with that turn — the lawns wake up, the weeds wake up faster, and mowing goes from every other week to every week without much warning. The job is mowing, edging, hedge trimming, and pulling weeds while the ground is soft enough to give up a whole root. Wet-season clippings are heavy, so they're bagged and carried out rather than matted back into the grass. By the time the dry months return the lawn is thick enough to hold its own.
