Junk Smiths

About Junk Smiths

Every bungalow block off Beach Boulevard has one corner of the yard that got away from somebody — the heap behind the garage, the hedge that grew into the fence line, the bags that never made it to the curb. Junk Smiths shows up on a bright Saturday, opens the gate, and works until that corner looks like the rest of the property again. The mower goes over what was hiding under it all, the edges get cut back to the concrete, and the trailer leaves loaded. There is a particular satisfaction in a yard that has room in it once more, and in the homeowner standing in the middle of it, looking around. Huntington Beach afternoons are long enough to finish the job and still catch the light going gold over the rooftops.
