Greener Gardens

About Greener Gardens

On the small rise above Beach and Adams, the Newland house keeps a garden older than the tracts around it, and Huntington Beach still rewards that sort of patience. Greener Gardens works in the same spirit, with beds weeded and planted, roses and shrubs pruned, and mulch laid so the soil holds its water through a dry April. The lawn gets its steady share too: mowing, edging, trimming, feeding, and the clippings carried off. Spring here is short and bright, and the difference between a garden and a plain yard is whoever is willing to kneel down in it. Come back in July and the beds are still full, which is the part that takes real tending.
