Weed pulling and spraying, beds cleared down to bare ground, gravel yards kept honest, grass mowed and edged before anything volunteer can get a foothold. It is a war that resets every spring, which is fine; that is the arrangement you accept living out on the Mojave's western shoulder. Nothing looks better than a yard where the only plants growing are the ones somebody chose.
