Green Forever

About Green Forever

The Mojave River runs under Hesperia more than over it for most of the year — water moving out of sight beneath the sand, which is a fair description of what it takes to keep anything green here. Green Forever tends that patient side of the work: watering schedules honored, grass mown and edged, thin spots chased down and fed, weeds kept off the easy ground. Morning is the hour, when the sprinklers have just shut off and a whole yard smells like the one rainy day of the year. Green is not the default in this country; it is a decision, renewed every week. Holding it all the way through a Victor Valley summer is the accomplishment worth naming.
