Sierra Land and Yard

About Sierra Land and Yard

Late afternoon on the Alta Sierra side, the light comes sideways through the gray pines and lands on the lawn in long bars. Sierra Land and Yard spends its hours in the yards south of Grass Valley, mowing, running the trimmer down fence lines and rock borders, and clearing the needle-drop that covers everything by Friday. Ground up here is never flat for long, so the cutting goes in passes that follow the slope instead of fighting it. A yard in these hills looks best when the turf is even and the edge stands crisp against decomposed granite. That is what gets left behind, house after house, until the light goes orange over the western ridge.
